Frequently Asked Questions

  • Pelvic floor physical therapy can help address a wide range of symptoms related to the pelvic floor and core. These may include bladder leakage, urinary urgency or frequency, pelvic pain, prolapse, pain with intimacy, and bowel concerns.

Pelvic floor therapy is also commonly used during pregnancy and postpartum to help support the body through physical changes, prepare for birth, and restore strength and coordination after delivery. Many women also seek care for abdominal separation (diastasis recti), core weakness, or discomfort with exercise.

  • Restore Pelvic Wellness Physical Therapy is an out-of-network, self-pay practice. This allows us to focus fully on you during every session, creating personalized treatment plans without the constraints insurance companies often place on care. Payment is due at the time of service, and we’re happy to provide you with a detailed “superbill” that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

  • No. In New York State you can begin physical therapy without a physician referral. That means you can schedule an evaluation right away. If your care extends beyond 10 visits or 30 days (whichever comes first), a referral may be required to continue treatment.

  • Your first visit is a chance for us to get to know you and what you’ve been experiencing. We’ll begin with a comfortable conversation about your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, and any questions you may have. This helps us understand your goals and create a care plan that feels supportive and personalized to you.

Your evaluation will begin much like a typical orthopedic physical therapy assessment, focusing on how your body moves and functions as a whole. It may include assessment of posture, breathing, core strength, and movement patterns. With your consent, an internal pelvic floor assessment may be performed to better understand muscle coordination and function, but this is always optional and discussed beforehand.
